Særudstilling: Picasso, Chagall, Klimt, Dalí m.fl.

I foråret 2019 modtog Læsø Kunsthal en donation på over 170 indrammede, grafiske værker fra professor og kunsthandler Henry Dyson (2. December 1949 – 30. Juni 2019). Henry Dyson opholdt sig regelmæssigt på Læsø gennem næsten 40 år, og etablerede i 2007 Galleri International på hans ejendom på Præstevejen.

Samlingen består for det meste af tematiske serier med udgangspunkt i litterære klassikere, især Dantes “Den guddommelige komedie”. Udført af kunstnere der udgør ca. det halve af en liste med de ti mest betydningsfulde i verden. I fremtiden skal de præsenteres flere forskellige steder på Læsø. I en egen afdeling i kunsthallen, i skolen, kommunehuset og andre offentlige rum.

I efterårsferien er der således en unik chance til at se hele donationen på ét sted.

Udstillingen “Dysondonationen” åbner mandag den 14. oktober kl. 13:00 og slutter lørdag den 19. oktober kl. 15:00.

The Political Art

Post-election: political rebellion on Laesoe

Soon after the general elections in Denmark, some of the most prominent national and international profiles will exhibit in the first group exhibition for political art in Denmark.

Chinese Ai WeiWei, British Banksy, Swedish Lars Vilks and Danish Firoozeh Bazrafkan are among the 13 artists taking part in an exhibition at Laesoe Art Hall.

“Political art represents both the fight and the vaccine against the culture of silence that exists in every society. The political artist breaks down taboos so that paths are opened for exchanging thoughts and ideas between individuals and between citizens and leaders. For this reason, political art is essential. And for this reason, this exhibition is essential,” says the curator of the art gallery Jon Eirik Lundberg of the background behind the exhibition.

Artists under threat

The exhibition has been underway for a while, since the art gallery has wished to gather some of the most pioneering names in this distinct area of the world of art. The idea of the exhibition was formulated in 2017, and the work culminates this summer in an exhibition of 230 SQM with political artists from all over the world who have paid for their art with imprisonment, fines, assaults and death threats. The work on this project brought about a collaboration with the group Passion For Freedom, which has presented political art in London for the last ten years. One of its members, Agnieszka Kolek, participates in the exhibition on Laesoe.

The purpose of the exhibition is to make political art known and to let people reflect over the reactions to political art within themselves and within others – and why they have this impact. The leader of the art gallery Jon Eirik Lundberg states that the exhibition is also a tribute to political artists:

Revealing the limits to freedom

“Like the canary in the old days showed miners when the air was running out, the political artist unveils where the limits to free speech are in a society. The political artist supports the individual’s opportunity to live in freedom. In totalitarian regimes, the artist lives with their own life and freedom on the line, but also in our part of the world we see that he or she is assaulted, threatened and shamed out. We see often that their artworks – sometimes deliberately – are interpreted as specific political opinions, and that the artist must account for opinions simply because they are included in elements of his or her artwork,” says Jon Eirik Lundberg.

Provocative art

Political art, unlike many other forms of art, relates itself specifically to society and for this reason often seems disturbing or even provocative for the viewer. Political artists are also often misunderstood as provocateurs for the sake of provocation or promoting a political agenda. But there is a huge difference between politics and political art, and one of the ambitions behind the exhibition is precisely to spread awareness of this distinction, says the curator of the art gallery:

“Art does not have a defined goal as politics do. And while politics is about providing answers, the intention of art is to ask questions. That is why we need political art. We must – however provocative it may be – be able to relate to all questions about our society and opinions without always having to provide an answer.”

The exhibition “Political art” runs from Friday 7^th June to Sunday 28^th July 2019. The following artists are participating with their works:

Per Kirkeby er en af Danmarks mest betydningsfulde, nulevende kunstnere. I mere end fire årtier har han beskæftiget sig med stort set alle former for billedkunstneriske udtryk – fra maleri, tegning, skulptur og grafik til scenografi og film. Derudover er han forfatter, digter og arkitekt, og skriver essays og kunstnermonografier. Han forener det sanselige i stoffet og farvers rå materie med stor kunstnerisk og teoretisk indsigt. Evnen til at samle formen, naturen og ideernes luftige spind i maleri og skulptur har gjort ham til en af den moderne kunsts vigtigste skikkelser.

Kirkeby på Læsø viser hans brug af en række gennemgående motiver, hentet i naturen – i skoven og omkring hans atelier på Læsø. Udstillingen indfanger kunstnerens vidtfavnende sans for alt, hvad der har stærk billeddannende kraft. I sine værker udveksler Kirkeby konstant med omgivelserne, og man genfinder mange motiver fra øen både i hans skulpturer og i hans malerkunst. Tematisk baserer Kirkebys arbejde sig ofte på kunstnerens egne observationer af naturen og dens forandringer.

Udstillingen i Læsø Kunsthal fokuserer på værker fremstillet på Læsø. Den vil således rumme et udsnit af Kirkebys bronzeskulpturer, tegninger, tavler, monotypier, tryk samt skitser der er relateret til Læsø. Dette greb komplementeres af Kirkebys egne film og litterære arbejder. De vil vises særskilt i kunsthallen, således at man som gæst vandrer gennem et dobbelt livsværk: Kirkebys rejse gennem de forskellige genrer og udtryksformer, og sporene fra de tilbagevendende arbejdsophold på Læsø. Denne koncentration af værker fra forskellige tidsepoker og referencer til Læsø, åbner for en undersøgelse af samspillet mellem sted og værk hos en af landets nationalt og internationalt mest betydningsfulde kunstnere.

Per Kirkeby (f. 1938) er både billedkunstner, geolog, skulptør, forfatter, filmproducent og arkitekt. Han er oprindeligt uddannet i naturhistorie fra Københavns Universitet (1964-67), og siden som billedkunstner fra Den Eksperimenterende Kunstskole, også kaldet Eks-skolen, under blandt andre Poul Gernes. Kirkebys forhold til Læsø begyndte da han lavede en kortfilm om sin ældre kollega Asger Jorn i 1976-77. Efterfølgende erhvervede Kirkeby en gård midt på øen og indrettede et skulpturværksted i 1980. Hans malerier hænger i private samlinger og på museer verden over.

Per Kirkeby (b. 1938) is one of the most acknowledged, contemporary Danish artists. For more than four decades he has worked in basically all artistic modes of expression; from painting, drawing, sculpture and prints to scenography and film. Apart from that he is an author, poet, architecht, as well as a writer of essays and artist monographies. His ability to combine the form, Nature and the world of ideas into paintings and sculptures has made him one the most important figures in modern art.

The exhibition will present works created on Laesoe, spanning decades in time and a range of different media; sculptures, drawings, sketches, prints, and so on. Along with these pieces the audience will be duly introduced to Kirkeby’s merits in literature and film.

Nordisk kunstprojekt ankommer på Læsø

Det nordiske samtidskunstprojekt, “Frem med rasket”, er ankommet på Læsø. Det har tidligere gæstet Norge og Island, og Læsø er den tredje og sidste destination. En gruppe kunstnere og fordragsholdere byder ind med udstillinger og et seminar. Værkerne laves på stedet, af materialer kunstnerne finder (“rasket”, eller “skraldet”). Læsø Kunsthal er vært for projektet, og udstillingerne vil finde sted indeni og udenfor kunsthallen.

The Nordic art project, “Bring out the debris”, has arrived on Laesoe. The project is running over three years, ans has earlier been performed in Norway and Iceland. The idea is to gather a group of Nordic artists together, produce an exhibition out of locally found materials, and invite the audience for at seminar on topics such as contemporary art in rural areas, with relation to identity and economy. The entrance is free, and the events all take place in Oesterby Harbor, in and around Laesoe Art Hall.

Den Anden Havn

Den tyske kunstner, Till Verclas, åbnede den 4. juli sit bidrag til Læsø Kunsthals hovedudstilling, REBOUND. Værket hedder Den Anden Havn, og består af en flåde på 6 skibe, der ligger fortøjet i en bugt på Læsø, Bouet. Bouet var i århundreder en naturhavn, og som sådan var den Danmarks 2. største havn. Det var den gang Læsø fyldte rollen som logistisk og geografisk midtpunkt i Skandinavien.

Skibene blev bygget i Østerbyhavn i juni 2015. Under Copenhagen Art Week (20. – 28. august) vil en lille flåde på tre skibe være placeret på Sct. Jørgens Sø i København (ved Planetarium). Værket er støttet af Region Nordjylland.

The German artist Till Verclas is the creator of Laesoe Art Halls outdoor installation, The Second Harbor. The work contains of six boats anchored in the bay of Bouet on Laesoe. For Centuries Bouet was the second biggest harbor in Denmark, as Laesoe served as a geological and logistical hub in the merchant traffic between Sweden, Denmark and Norway. The fleet in Bouet is referring to the smaller vessels used for shipping goods on and off the sail ships.

During Copenhagen Art Week (August 20th to 28th) a minor fleet of three similar boats will be put to display on St. Joergen’s Lake in the center of Copenhagen. The installation if funded by The Region of Norther Jutland.

Læsø Kunsthal forhandler smykkekunstner Vera Rhodius.

Læsø Kunsthals butik forhandler Vera Rhodius‘ smykker via Galerie Friederike Rohse i Hamborg. Smykkerne er håndlavede og unikke, oftest fremstillet af guld, sølv og emalje. Men også andre materialer, så som lava, gammelt opalglas og edelstene tages i brug.

Laesoe Art Hall presents exclusive jewelry from Galerie Friederike Rohse. The pieces are designed and crafted by Friederike Rohse and Vera Rhodius, and combines gold, silver, enamel and other materials.

Læsø Litteraturfestival 2014: Morten Chemnitz

Morten Chemnitz deltager i Læsø Litteraturfestival 2014.

Morten Chemnitz er født i 1984 og uddannet fra Forfatterskolen. Han sidder i redaktionen for forlaget Arena. I 2012 udkom hans oversættelse af Marguerite Duras: Sommeren 80. I 2013 debuterede han med Inden april.

Morten læser op på Læsø Litteraturfestival fredag den 1. august kl. 20:40, og søndag 3. august kl. 13:00. Hans anden optræden vil handle om den franske forfatter Edouard Levé og bogen Basilisk.

Reproduktion og salg af bronzeskulpturer

Læsø Kunsthals faste samling består af knap 30 skulpturer i jern skabt af kunstner-smeden Erik Sparre (1936-2008). Samlingen blev erhvervet af Jon Eirik Lundberg fra Erik Sparres familie i 2008, efter kunstnerens død samme år. Det meste af samlingen er siden doneret til DSI Læsø Kunsthal, og udgør institutionens grundkapital.

Erik Sparres livsværk har været udstillet på Læsø siden påsken 2009, og med tiden har mange ønsket at købe værkerne. Da dette ikke er muligt, tilbyder Læsø Kunsthal reproduktioner af fire af skulpturerne i massiv bronze. Her kan du se hvilke de er, og hvad de koster.

Skulpturerne bliver produceret i lukkede serier hos Skulpturstøberiet i Svendborg. Alle detaljer i overfladen overføres til bronzen.

Fast samling: Erik Sparre (1936 – 2008)

All season: Our permanent collection of the works of Erik Sparre (1936-2008)

Erik Sparre var en klejnsmed og skulptør på Læsø fra 1966 til sin død i 2008. Hans produktion begyndte i 1972 og sluttede i 2006. Han nægtede at udstille, at sælge eller producere på bestilling. De mest komplette værker forærede han til venner og familie. Af samme grund er den hele samling delt i to: 50% befinder sig til enhver tid på Læsø, i Læsø Kunsthals udstilling; den anden halvdel er spredt verden over. Læsø Kunsthal kender til ca. 20 værker i Danmark, som en gang i mellem bliver indlånt til udstillingen. Derudover skal der findes skulpturer i Grækenland og Australien. Alle kendte værker er siden 2012 samlet i kataloget “Erik Sparre – Den Hemmelighedsfulde Mester”, produceret og udgivet af Jon Eirik Lundberg, Læsø Kunsthal, juli 2012.

Erik Sparre was educated a blacksmith, but worked in secrecy as an artist for 40 years on Laesoe. Laesoe Art Hall purched app. 50% of the entire work after Sparre’s death in 2008. The rest of the works are spread around Denmark, and some of these are madde accessible for our exhibitions every summer. Four pieces are also reproduced in bronze, and can be purchased.
